can Emus and Chickens live together in the same pen

yes they can. I have chickens, ducks, geese and an emu all together. when I put the emu in with the rest she was 4 months old. she scared the other critters terribly. they must of thought she was the devil. after a few days everyone settled down and they are all one big happy family. however, I have recently had issues introducing more chickens and ducks into the mix. matilda, my emu, did not like the new additions. she chased them all over the place and tried to stomp on them. I made shelters that they could get under to get away from them. matilda has accepted the pullets into the flock. however the new ducks are another matter. I think because they segregated themselves in another part of the yard and stayed away from the main flock she didn't accept them. I made an area for them to get out of her way but she managed to kill three of the four (they were not babies. they were almost as big as my other ducks.) then next introduction of new critters to the flock will be handled in a different manner. matilda will be separated from the main flock and once the newbies become part of the flock, then matilda will be added back to the group.

I do not keep my emus with my chicken and duck flock. My emus were acting aggressive with my hens when they were 3 months old and they had been raised together. My emus are now a year old. They get along with my dogs which are 3 chihuahuas and a large dog (I don't know what breed he is).

As I have said many times, as someone who has raised generations of emus, there are no hard and fast rules regarding emus and their potential penmates, sometimes they get along , sometimes they don't, they can be best friends one day and literally kill the next day. If you are willing to risk it, you put them together and keep a very close eye on them, and always have a backup pen and plan ready if and when you need it...

Yes, emus and chickens will live perfectly fine togethor. Well, this is with my experience. My emu was raised in the chook yard with all the chickens and have never attacked any chickens of mine. But do be warned! Never, under any circumstance leave your baby chicks out with the emu. The chicks must be of decent size before being able to live with the emu, because you will find they will get eaten, and accidently trampled.
