Can emus be in the same fenced in area with camels?

My FIL does want some emus so....... where do I start? He will probably want chicks since we haven't had good luck with the incubator. Usually little cousins come over and when we aren't looking they touch the bator and we don't know about it till it is to late. Had plenty of chicks that needed help hatched, culled, or were almost fully ready to hatch get cooked. Chicks are probably the best to start with for us then. I'm not sure how many he would want. I know I definitely only want a couple to start with so it would be easier to tame them. I know from my chicken/turkey expierence that it was easier to tame a couple at a time instead of a whole group. I would also like more information on raising them. He has had ostrich before so he knows some about large birds but I have no expierence with them. I've been around ostrich before that were at a place for a 4H show and a zoo. Definitely scary being around them.

We had adult emus in with our camels, both dromedary like those pictured and the larger Bactrian camels. Of course they were in pens of several acres each, so there was no crowding. Also had llamas, rheas, cattle and donkeys in with them. I wouldn't put young emus with them though, they might get stepped on.

I figured when they got large to move in them with the camels and when they are younger have them in a smaller area which would make it easier to work with them. I wish my FIL had the Bactrain camels. I know he would like to get some reindeer and get rid of the camels.

well, reindeer would be a lot cheaper and MUCH easier to deal with.

I have searched for Emu's here in Onario Canada, very hard to find. I finally found an ostrich farm in the Toronto area, 500 dollars each started chick

I want Emu's or ostriches so badly......I was considering driving the 13 hours down there paying the 1000 for 2 chicks last september, but then I thought about it rationally, the gas is expensive, the birds are expensive, their pen set up is even more money because you need high game fencing and loads of room. so I put it aside for now, I have about 50 acres so room for them is not an issue, and the game fencing is going up this summer, but I am still thinking about the 1000 for 2 birds even though they are magnificent birds and the 2 most wanted birds on my list...that and either a couple alpacas or llamas...the camel thing was a joke...lol....not sure they would fare well in our northern climate...

the llamas/alpacas are expensive here too...2500 to over 6000 for just one....sometimes more, but across the board that is what I have seen as normal pricing here in canada. I cannot justify spending that much on one animal as of yet.

We sold the baby male camel we had for $3,000 and I know the females are usually $5K+ for a young one. I've seen some cheap llamas in the papers around here a few times. I might have to order a Animals Finders Guide and see what people around are selling. They usually list exotic animals. My FIL is sort of wanting to sale his camels.
