I have been wanting emus for a while, and recently read a list of things to be cautious of and one that stuck out for me is acorns. my yard is half covered by huge oak trees that produce tons of them. will this be a problem for raising emus?

It could be that some types of oaks are more toxic than other per the tannic acidAccording to Red Oak Farms's list of plants that are dangerous to emus, acorns will cause bloody diarrhea, excessive thirst and urination. That being said, I know an emu farmer who has his birds fenced in a woodsland which contains oak trees. The birds quickly learned not to eat the the acorns. So, while acorns are apparently not deadly to emus, they can have a toxic effect. http://www.redoakfarm.com/dangerousplants.htm
I know that I have peach trees in one of my emu enclosures and the same list claims that peach "pits stems and leaves reported to cause convulsions, respiratory failure and death", but I have never had a health problem in any of the birds in that pen and that pen has been utilized for several years.
