Can feathers go into the compost?

Feathers are a great source of nitrogen. If you look at the ingredients on any organic fertilizer, you'll see "feather meal" right up towards the top- which is in essense ground up feathers:)
 
I have an old garbarge disposal, the kind used in a kitchen sink. it is set up outside and I use it to grind up chicken bones to throw into the compost pile for bone meal, which is great for veggi plants.
