I have a 2 yr old female African. I haven't been able to locate any ganders for sale, and having had 2 nasty ganders and an Air BnB business (yes there were a few 'incidents') I'm not really eager to add another gander.
Problem is, my female gets very 'ardent' this time of year and spends a lot of time trying to have sex with my dogs. Sometimes pig. Can post video if you like ; )) And goslings would be fun. Last year she never set, just layed. Would she set if she had a gander? I do know a neighbor that has a gander.' I do know they mate for life but would they 'hook up' if she went for a visit for a few days? Would you think she would then be encouraged to set? Or, was thinking of trying to find fertilized eggs but again, how will I know when she is ready to set? It's obvious with chickens...
Thanks for any input!

Having a mate might make a difference-maybe. If it were me I'd leave the goose eggs in the nest. If the eggs are removed the hen will not go broody. If you have use for the infertile eggs, dummy eggs can be used to replace the goose eggs as they are laid. Then, when the goose hen starts staying on her nest (broody) I'd give her fertile eggs from the neighbor to hatch. Duck eggs could also be given to the goose. When I had geese I used burned out light bulbs as dummy goose eggs.
