can hens crow???

Doesn't sound like anything I'd identify as crowing. I once had a Delaware hen who'd wail and caterwaul-she sounded like a small cow bellowing. A repair guy who actually owned chickens once asked me if that noise was a chicken, LOL. Told him, yeah, that's Maxie, Mouth of the South. I wouldn't call it crowing, though.

thanks for all the comments! im so new at this, any help is appreciated... so i have the obvious rooster in a large pen inside the coop and i guess tomorrow ill get the nerve to let him join... if the hen that crows is a boy... will they fight? or will they fight anyway? anything i need to know...?

Usually when a hen crows it is an indication of a hormone imbalance resulting from a problem with her uterus.

There's an old saying: "Whistling girls & crowing hens always come to some bad end".

It's our rosecomb bantam hen crowing. She has always crowed, since she was young. One day, she flew up onto our rooftop and crowed up there. She also lays nice eggs and occasionally goes broody, she has hatched two little families in her 3 years!

Her grandpa was the IL State Fair Grand Champion Crower in 2007. She's got it in her genes.

Maybe, the seller didn't know either?
I have had chickens most of my life, I still can't sex youngsters.

I had a...something...it looked like a hen, then it crowed, it laid one egg, then played rooster...
I have too many roosters, already, so if I can't tell, it is culled.

Sure was good chicken and dumplings and no more guessing games! I never did know for sure what it was.

This is my hen SS Hazel. She is 13 months old and began to "crow" a few months ago. We built a new bigger coop and that is when this all started. She now has issues laying . She used to lay brown eggs. Now they are white and weigh only an 1oz or so. I think she is still stressed about moving into the new coop!

She paces the flowered wall "looking' for the old coop to lay her eggs in. She never goes past a certain point of the wall as that was where the old ramp was to the coop. Poor Hazel is so confused!
