Can I brood Turkeys, Chicks, Ducks, and Guineas together?

I have read that if you raise chickens you should not also have turkeys due to a disease called blackhead. Supposedly chickens are carriers of the disease and turkeys suffer from it.

Found this online....

They are very susceptible to the blackhead organism;
100 percent mortality can result if they contract this
disease and have not been protected with medication. Many
chickens carry blackhead organisms without apparent effect
on the chicken. Therefore, one of the cardinal principles
is never raise chickens and turkeys together; turkeys must
be completely isolated from chickens.

Note TURKEYS: Turkeys are extremely sensitive to chilling and it is most noticeable in their leg and toe joints Turkeys survive best when initially placed with chicks. The chicks 'teach' the turkeys to eat and drink and help them to keep warm. At 3-4 weeks of age the turkeys should be separated due to possible disease transmission.

I've heard that blackhead has to be present in the gorund for the chickens to give it to the turkeys... I dont think we have it, but the Turkey's would be seperate from the chickens once they get out of the brooder. When I was little we always had them together and no one ever died...

Glad to know that keets and chicks can go together. I was planning to maybe get a few chicks added to a guinea order and I was hoping they could 'room' together for a bit!!

The post about black head and turkeys is correct. Keep turkeys seperate from other poultry, I think if they free range they can coexist but if they are cooped turkeys and chickens are a no no. Now I see post here where people are raising them together but if black head breaks out dead turkeys and the chickens will be fine.
As for ducks they are really nasty and foul the drinking water. I wouldn't have ducks unless I had a good size pond for them to swim on. I am speaking from my own experince. I wanted ducks, i got 4 and had them pened up, it was January and they stunk to high heaven by March. I gave them away 'cause I was afraid my neighbors would attack.

I was wondering about this same question, but only having to do with putting the same aged goslings and poults together (2 of each), along with one same aged duckling with a case of mistaken identity (he's been raised with the goslings since birth)...lol. I have a fairly large brooder that could accommodate all 5 of them (if you think they'd all get along) and still have room to somehow rig the water station so their bedding would not become a soggy mess. In the meantime, I'm housing the poults in my shower stall and the duck and goslings in a smaller brooder in the same bathroom. This not only shrinks the size of my usable bathroom space, but it also makes for twice as much setup and cleanup for me (2 brooder areas instead of one), so I was wondering if my above suggested idea of housing them all together would work, and if so, for how long? I was really hoping for the entire brooding time since they're all the same age, but would be willing to hear ALL suggestions because this issue has had me in a quandary for over a week now and I'm almost at my wits end as to the decision I should make about their brooder housing. All I know for certain, is that I need more space in my bathroom and an easier feeding and cleaning schedule for myself. Thanks for all your help. Your past reply's to my sometimes silly and occasionally even somewhat dense questions, have always been very helpful and thought provoking.

I have raised poults, chicks and keets all together. Tried to raise the ducklings with the others, but they just made too much of a wet mess. No matter how I tried to fix the waterer, the ducklings made a wet mess of the bedding. So, they always get their own private spot now. The others do well together. The only problem I have had is with the keets. When they are raised with the chicks, they THINK they are chicks! Even when fully grown, they refuse to leave the chicken coop! We have had to literally catch them every night, and take them out of the coop, place them with the other guineas (they are totally free range), and teach them to stay out of the coop! It is a big pain in the butt! The keets are fully grown now and do NOT realize they are guineas! They think they are chickens, which would be OK, except they get rather rough with the 'girls' at times! It is ALWAYS a madhouse around here! lol

Can a chicken raise turkey poults? And chicks? My broody had 4 chicks and 1 turkey right now. They have only been with her one day tho cuz they just hatched. I'm getting 4 more turkeys tomorrow. Should I raise the turkeys or let her have them all? Will the turkeys be ok?

If she accepts them, the turkeys will be fine. I had a broody raise chicks, poults and a goose all at the same time. It was pretty hilarious to watch her try to cover them all after they were a few weeks old, when the poults and goose were bigger than her!

Aww sounds like she was a good mom! I now have 2 more broodys! 1 silkie in the hen house and one black australorp in the chicken tractor. I was thinking about giving one of them the turkeys. if I move them will they not be broody? how do I keep them broody and get them away from the other hens? would they raise them together? thanks!
