Can I change a garage door openers into a coup door opener?

Some door openers also have aligning light beams that are also common. If your opener has these when the door begins to open and the chickens run out and break the beam, the door will come back down. this was designed as a saftey feature to prevent things from getting sqaushed by the door. if yours does not have this then it is a great idea and has me thinking cooooool.
