Not a big deal. I nearly took my thumb off on those. Do NOT use a dull knife. I'll send you some clean, cut cartons with the eggs. Good packing filler!

I had them hatch in the carton, but I did cut part of the bottom out and the ridges in the middle too. I liked that they couldn't play egg soccer with their slower to emerge hatch mates. I had 22/24 hatch and two that quit around week two--no problems at all with chicks getting stuck and clean up was easy. Happy hatching!

Question though - say you fill the 'bator up with 40 or so eggs. You lose a few but you're still 35+ at lockdown. How on earth do you fit all the cartons in there for the eggs? Am I over-thinking this?

Nope, not at all! With a hatch that size you just don't have room. There are pros and cons to both methods, I honestly don't think there is any best way, just a question of what works for you, with your equipment and in your environment.

I started with 37, I have 3 - 12ct eggs cartons all sitting side by side with enough room for me to tilt them from side to side. I had an extra egg of to the side. I had 4 that didn't make it so I have 33 now and if you go a page or 2 back you can see how I have them in the incubator in their cartons!
