Can I compost chicken poop with bedding?

I am really new to chickens, I have never had chickens at all. I was wondering if I could compost chicken poop with the bedding. If I can is there anything I have to do to it before I give it to my plants?

We till it into the soil before planting. If it is old chicken poo and bedding then it has had time to "ferment" and will be fine. I only use what I take out of my coop on all my gardening projects...nothing store bought...and my plants are huge! Flowers are gorgeous. If the chicken bedding is real fresh then let it set in a pile somewhere for a month or two before using it directly on plants. I love it.

You'd be very smart to!

I rake mine around about once a week to absorb the poo & leftovers better. Take it out & add new bedding whenever the stench mandates so then either add it to your garden or I add it to my compost pile. By adding it to your compost pile, it can ferment more & take on more food scraps etc.

Do you guys find you have things growing that you didn't plant? Does the bedding not hold spilled grains in it? Just wondering, I tried it and have had a weeding job on my hands in my veggie garden this year.

I read somewhere that the wood shavings weren't good for your garden. That's what I use for my chicken bedding. Will the shavings break down and not harm the plants?
