Can I crush oyster shells I find on the beach?

Here in the PNW oyster shells don't cost this much. Walmart has two different kinds. I only buy the little bags when I need them but, I have only four hens at the moment. The small bag I have right now I bought last year. We have them at wilco our farm store in town.

$15.99 for 50# here. I think was cheaper when I bought, but with how long it lasts, I wouldn't think twice about 20-25 dollars. The small bag lasts me plenty long enough. I bought the big bag because of supply chain issues. Nothing to lose because it doesn't go bad.

$17.49, least week

My second 50# bag, ever. Now three years in, most of that time with a flock of 60-80 birds.

Yeah, smallest part of my "feed" budget.

and time. I could get oyster shell from a local restaurant (an hour away) by the 5 gall bucket, crush it myself. But the time savings here is measuarable - I have better things to do with my time. Much better things.
