Hello!

I have three hens, just about a year old, they free range and I've been feeding them layers pellets and keeping them for the eggs, would these hens be ok to have butchered to eat?

I eat mine sometimes. Mostly just the mean roosters. The meat is tougher than you might expect when they are free range. They also are a bit scrawnier than you might think. They make good soups, but poor roaters or friers.

Thanks for the replies, I don't know if I'll actually be able to do it, but have been thinking about eating them!!

chick e chick I am so glad you asked this question. I have an over abundance of possible roos and they are bantam cochins. I was wondering if I could use them for food also. I realize they would basically only be good for soup and such since they are small.
