Can I feed them grubs from the garden?

I was just turning over my raised planter beds and found a bunch of white ugly fat bugs in there... like catepillar looking things but with almost a clear skin. So gross!

Anyway, I threw a bunch to my chickens and they loved the, but after reading earlier about cutting the heads off of giant mealy worms before feeding, I started to worry about feeding them the grubs.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Thats just an old myth that meal worms will eat there way out of an animals stomach which is not true.Mine chickens eat those every year and there fine

That's what chickens are supposed to do.

- Dig up and eat grubs, eat plants, etc. They weren't made to sit around in a run and eat processed corn, wheat, and soy.

btw - The grubs you see are likely beetle larvae. Quite fine.

Thanks for your replies! I planned to let the kids go to town on the garden boxes and collect as many as possible for the chickens (also because I need to get rid of them!).

My chickens are well trained. When they see my boyfriend start to walk around the house to the wood pile, they chase after him like a bunch of little road-runner cartoon chickens. THey know there are grubs there that he will throw to them, and they LOVE it.

My chickens do the exact same thing when I go our wood pile. They also like the ones that come out of the wood when it's split.

Yep, those are the ones he throws to them! He is their BFF on wood spliting day.
