Can I feed them grubs from the garden?

Any insect in my yard is fair game, there's not many exceptions. Mealworms and superworms chewing through an animal's stomach is a BIG FAT LIE. The rumor started with reptiles, but having raised several geckos from babies on a diet of solely mealworms (before I got feeder roaches) it's not true.

My hens love grubs, slugs, slug eggs... I can't wait for spring this year, because instead of being overrun with slugs of all sizes, I'll be hunting up the last of them to feed to my chickens!

Gross, but this is like crack for them. I feed them mealworms by hand and the girls go bananas. Wish i had more grubs au naturale, but we have to get our mealworms at Petco instead....

You guys need to relax a bit - you are getting me way too excited about all of this. It's past bed time, and I'm ready to go out and find grubs. My kids are going to be so excited - they love hunting worms! When I tell them they can dig the planter boxes for grubs they are going to go nuts! Yeah! Thanks for letting me know they aren't going to eat my chickens!

i gave my girls a huge giant madagascar hissing roach male the other day... most of them were scared of it... until this daring pullet started beating it up against the rocks... then it was a game of giant cockroach soccer...

I remember my aunt's chickens freaking out when they found a nice stash of bugs in the garden as a kid. We're planning on supplementing ours with worms from our worm bin, and BSF larvae from the compost. Worms are a great protein source for birds.

My chickens would be beyond thrilled to have a grub right now. Unfortunately all the grubs are under at least a foot of snow.

Man I love this site! I have learned a ton. My flock is only 9 months old and they are getting a better owner each day I am on here. Now I can't wait for spring (15 inchs of snow due tonight in MI ) and get in the garden to feed them bugs.
