Can I free-range in my county

are you outside city limits? if you are IN city limits you'll want to look up you local ordinances concerning fowl or livestock, depending on how they classify chickens where you're located. If you're outside the city limits you'd probably have to check with the county or state govt for the official rules.

here's a link that might help. if you can't find the info on their website (which I couldn't) you can always email or call them to ask. i've found that they are usually pretty happy to help you find what you need to know to be within the law as far as your birds are concerned

I'll second this. I received a wide variety of advice from folk here at BYC on how to find out if keeping chickens was legal in my area. None said "call or email them." That's what I wound up doing, and I am glad that I did. My township zoning officer was very informative and helpful. Armed with the specific information for my area, I was able to make sure that I was legal from the get-go. As a result I have no worries about someone showing up at my door to tell me to get rid of my chickens, or to move my coop. Even though they could have no say in the matter, I did my neighbors the courtesy of letting them know that I would be keeping chickens.

Good luck in your quest for information. Let us know what you find out!
