can i get a disease from chickens?

I have a sick looking chick with bald spots that look like warts on jaw and neck, I have isolated him/her from the flock but am a first time chicken owner and don't know what else to do. The chick acts fine except occationally twists neck and is sad about being isolated, what should I do?!!!

Helicobacter pylori is rather endemic. Most of the world population has it, about 25% of the population in developed countries have it. 80+% show no symptoms their entire lives, with "symptoms" showing due to other stresses or diagnosis of other conditions. It's most commonly it is picked up in childhood and you can trace different strains though families and communities.

Quote: interesting.... The hospital had overdosed my 5 year old with zythromax, he was to get 200mg and they gave him 900mg at one shot, so I am starting to think his belly pain and head to toe rash is from the overdose and not the bacteria as they are telling me it cant be the zythromax.... poison control said its from zythromax but the hospital should know what they are doing as far as health care.... UGGGGGG he seems better this morning, held down lunch n breakfast so far... no fever!!

adding.... Thank God he is back home after a week!!!

Well, antibiotics kill bacteria. 99.9% of the bacteria in your body is beneficial to your existence. Glad he's feeling better though!
hospital didnt say sorry or anything,,,,, just oh well people make mistakes, wouldnt even give me a copy of the report!!!

I am glad this topic has been addressed.... I have my baby standard cochin Chicks in the house in their own room until I can get them bigger and have a safe place for them outside. I clean up after them constantly and I was told I coulg get a disease from them which I find hard to believe as they are cleaner then if they were outside. I was very upset when I was apporached like this and still feel extremely upset.

Are you talking about leukosis? Most chicken diseases are not transmitted to people, except for some like salmonella and campylobacter.
