Hey Y’all
I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather lately and was just wondering if I could pass any cold I have on to my chicks. Obviously, I have to change their food and water everyday so i’m just a little worried about them getting sick. I looked at another thread with this issue and it looked like it got mixed responses. Sorry if this is a riducoulos question. :) Thanks so much and God Bless!

No most diseases are specific for a certain animal or a human. Your chicks can, however make you sick if you handle droppings and don’t wash your hands.
Thanks for the quick responce! Was a little worried there. :) Thinking of letting the chicks out side for the first time today, for 15 minutes. They are one and a half and two and a half weeks old. It’s 70 degrees and sunny out right now but, the ground is a little wet because a sprinkler problem we now have fixed. Is it safe for them to get a little damp? Thanks again!

No. Do not take your chicks outside. They are still supposed to be under a heat lamp.
Also, keeping everything as dry as possibe is paramount in chicken keeping.

They are much hardier than you may think. I've had broody hens take week old chicks out foraging in light rain plenty of times. If I had to wait for it to be completely dry, none of my birds would ever get outside.

Here you go, here's some guidance for you; scroll down a little in this link:

Thanks for the advice! However, I have a reasonably large brooder 4’ by 4’ one corner has a heat lamp where they can go to get warm, the other is much cooler. When my chicks decide to play they will often go to the cooler side for a couple minutes sometime even sleep there. So I thought it might be ok to take them out for 10-15 minutes outside in the sun? I would keep a close eye on them and if they show any sign at all of being cold huddling together chirping a bunch I will put them straight back in the brooder. Definitely do not want to hurt my chicks though. Do you think this would be ok?
