Since being confined to our backyard Daisy isn't getting to play in a pond. We have a kiddie pool but it's gigantic and we need to get a smaller one, hopefully this weekend! In the meantime her feathers feel for lack of a better word dry. Like human hair would feel dry and it feels like there is something on them. Can I give her a bath with the hose on the mist or shower setting or a spray bottle? Or does this not matter at all and I'm just being silly? She has a large bowl of water in her pen and another two in other areas of our backyard for when she's out of the pen. It's large/deep enough to dunk her head in. Do ducks have to have a "pond" or no? We're going to get her a pool regardless but I was just curious on that.

Anyway, she is doing GREAT in the backyard now. At first she hated it but she seems back to herself. She's laying in her nest she made daily and she wanders around the backyard looking for bugs and stuff when she's out. She doesn't object to being in her pen anymore either. The neighbor that was going to take her to the park thinks she got run over and I haven't said a word to the contrary. She informed me that she found a pile of feathers in the road at the end of our street that looked like the duck. I mentioned to her that we had gotten her a friend which isn't strictly true we just have daisy but nobody else knows that except us and you fine people. Not to worry though, I've put out a couple of feelers to two fellow dog show friends here in the area who have ducks asking if perhaps they had any who could come and be a friend to Daisy. No answer so far. This weekend we are going to try and hit up a local farmers market I saw advertised on craigslist and supposedly they have ducks and chickens there. My husband is suddenly ALL FOR getting her a friend as soon as possible so YAY for that. He just doesn't want at any point in time baby ducks so he wants to find another hen to prevent even the possibility. We're hoping to find an older bird b/c I don't really want to raise a duckling but we will if we can't find something or my friends don't want to part with any of their flock. I'm not sure where else I would look for adult so I'm hoping somebody has something.

If here feathers are getting dry and brittle and your up for it just put the hose on mist and and she'll have a blast. They don't necessarily have to have a pond to swim in but i like to have one just because it keeps there feathers in better condition.

Get a concrete mixing bin and fill it with water. That way she can clean herself properly and it does not take forever to fill up. Ducks do not need swimming water, but it is better for them if they can do it at least 2 times per week.
