Older hen with breathing/respiratory issues. At a loss

I'd try the Tylosin since she's sneezing and has mucous.

With her age, as suggested, she may have something else going on that is an underlying condition that is causing her symptoms.

Any mucous or lesions/canker inside the beak?
I'd check her crop and also feel of her abdomen for any bloat or feeling of fluid. Even though she's not laying eggs anymore, often as a hen ages they can have reproductive disorders that unfortunately will produce some symptoms of gurgling, labored breathing, etc. But if you are seeing mucous, that can point to respiratory infection.

As for your Duck. Technically the Tylosin wouldn't hurt her I suppose. Tylosin is used to treat certain conditions in waterfowl too, but it's best not to give an antibiotic to a healthy bird if you can avoid it. I'd separate out the hen during treatment if that's possible.

VetRx is a remedy much like Vapor Rub, it's not going to cure anything, but if you've found that it does seem to help alleviate symptoms for a short time, I'd think it'd be fine to continue with using that as well according to the package directions.

I hope she improves, keep us posted.
Thank you for your response!
There is mucous inside her beak/nose area, but it's not leaking out or crusting up or anything. I don't see any lesions or anything.
Her abdomen and crop feel normal and is also empty in the morning, which is why I'm still convinced it's respiratory. Would reproductive disorders have other symptoms?
Okay, I'll keep them as separate as possible.
Thank you again! I just purchased the Tylosin and am waiting for it to arrive. :)

I'd keep her nostrils wiped clean and keep her eating/drinking.

Usually there is no mucous with reproductive disorders. I do agree, likely this is respiratory infection.
Hopefully the Tylosin will help. Have you added new birds recently or had respiratory illness within your flock(s) before?

Okay, will do. And no, I have had these two forever and lost a couple others a few years ago to old age. I've never seen respiratory issues before, apart from my duck having a bubbly eye, but that I believe was caused by a scratch.

The tylosin arrived a couple of days ago, and I had to encourage her to drink it at first. She's doing so much better! Zooming around the yard, no open-mouthed breathing or rattles, but still a tiny bit of sneezing. I'm hoping the sneezing goes away too. Thank you all for all of your help!

Update: She is still a little mucousy sounding at night time. Is that also going to go away? I will continue the Tylosin.

Mucus production occurs during the course of a respiratory infection. A virus such as infectious bronchitis, will last several weeks. Mycoplasma (MG) symptoms may clear up with antibiotics in a few days or longer. Making sure the air is not dusty, and that there is good ventilation may be helpful.

I'd give the Tylosin for 5 days per the instructions on the package.

You're noticing the mucousy sound at night more so than the day? I'd make sure that there's good ventilation. It may be that she has Infection Bronchitis which seems to cause more issues at night, but it would be hard to know.

Hopefully she'll continue to improve, keep us posted.
