I have a white double breasted turkey that we raised with a small flock for slaughter and he ended up not being slaughtered so now he is the farm mascot. he lives outdoors in a movable shelter on pasture. he is approx 3.5 years old. he looked like he was shivering two days ago but we had unusually low temps and high winds, so i insulated around the bottom of his shelter and added more hay for bedding. at that time he was still eating with gusto... yesterday i noticed he wasn't as eager to see me comming with his feed and today he just looked at it and looked wobbly... I put nutra drench in his water and put vet rx all over his head and under his wings... I want to know if I can give him a shot of antibiotics... I have tylan 200 and la200... (I also have cows horses and chickens)...I have read before that chickens can have a shot so I assume turkeys can too... I need to know which one and how much.... he is probably every bit of 45-50 lbs

I only know chickens, but you can inject chickens and turkeys with Tylan 200 into the breast muscle. Normally in a meat bird, I would not inject the breast, since it can cause muscle necrosis. But you can also give Tylan orally. I would mix it into a small amount of something he will eat, like yogurt, but if he will not eat, just give it undiluted. Dosage of Tylan 200 would be 2.5 ml orally for a 50 pound bird, 2-3 times a day, for 3-5 days. As for LA 200, I have never found a dosage online, and it too can cause muscle damage. Not sure it I would give it orally either.

thank you! I will try orally but he will never be a meat bird now so I can do the injection if necessary.

I feel like I missed a few warning signs for a few days now and I don't want to lose him because I didn't treat him fast enough. I just lost a favorite chicken two days ago in two days...

I forgot to mention that I would check his crop to see if it is puffy or big and hard. Look him over for lice and mites. Many people hate to use antibiotics without a know cause, but I can understand trying one as a last ditch effort to try and save a pet bird like him. If possible, I would bring him inside to a barn or shed if possible. Shivering is definitely a sign of needing some extra warmth. The cold winter temps can really bring upon illness, and push them over the edge, especially in an older bird.

i am going to check his crop when I go back out, i usually feed him, but set out a self feeder over night when it was calling for snow here... we don't live at our farm and weren't sure of driving conditions the following day or two... it is warm here for the next week or so, already in the 50's ,so I am going to leave him out to get some sunshine and vitamin d... thank you for all of your help!
