can I hatch?

My runners are so messy they keep laying their eggs in the muddy areas NOT IN THE NESTS ! I have clean places with golf balls in them and they refuse to use them . I want to hatch some of their eggs ? How can I hatch them when they are muddy can I clean them or rub them clean ?

Ducks poop. I am sure you know this--but they do manage to hatch in the wild. I would just gently rub the dry poop off with a dry paper towel. Washing them is a usually a no-no, but use your best judgement.
