my pyr is a wonderful dog who i had to leave when i left my ex (he got snowbear and i got kids) he adores the girls so i know they are safe there. he would round them and their friends back when he was younger, he's 12 now and still as sweet as ever, but like a great big rug now. Great dog, i miss him. oh to have 2 of them!!!! u are so lucky......
Wonderful working dogs and you are very lucky to have found them for that kind of $$. Here they go for over $1,000.00 IF you can even find them locally.There is a great Pyro rescue group out there so you know folks.
Groom them regularly for sure or problems will appear.
It's official: these dogs will also guard against predators of the two-legged variety.
My wife was out in the chicken yard while ago, working with George on sticking his head into the self-feeder for food, when Gracie lost her mind, barking and snarling. My wife stood, turned, and found that two people had walked down to the gate to ask if we had any eggs for sale. George joined Gracie at the gate, and the two barked and snarled at the strangers until they left. Gracie went so far as to bark until their car was out of the driveway, then she sat for several minutes at the gate, watching, while George went on perimeter patrol with my wife.

I am so thrilled that you have had success with your new additions. I also use a special dog to 'watch' everyone on our property, and I tell everyone who has any kind of intruder, whether it be groundhog, deer, coyote, fox or bird of Prey, GET A GOOD DOG! You are living proof!
However..... the post I quoted above has me VERY concerned. As a life long owner of dogs, and at one time a dog trainer, I hope you will take one bit of advice. enroll NOW in some obedience course nearby. PLEASE dont wait. Great Pyr's are BIG dogs with a personality to match. Add to that the very nature of what they do, (herd/flock gaurd dogs) they take thier jobs very seriously, and YOU are the only one who can now set limits for them. Or they will set thier own. Gracie, needs to have an understanding with you, that when you acknowledge a stranger, and begin a conversation, that it is her signal to back off, dont let her take control of this, or she will fast be the alpha on your property, not you. What she needs is a verbal signal from you, a firm 'gracie, enough' should do, and if she doesnt quit, then you havent made your point.
You have stated that you are not 'dog' people, well, guess what, now you are! You have entered a whole wonderful relationship that will broaden your whole view! Please just take a few minutes to start your relationship off on the best foot possible, usually 6 nights, one a week is all it takes, and you will have more than just a trained dog, but a solid understanding, and better partners! Call your local Vet for class recommendations, they shouldnt run more than 40 dollars, and you only need to take the one dog. You can pass on the knowledge to the other dog once you have learned it yourself.
But Again, Gracie is sending you all kinds of warning signs, Please do her, and you, a favor..... You wont regret it, ever!
chickens are cool and dogs can make the world a better place!
I hope you can remember this "honeymoon period" when puppies are being puppies and chew some thing you only "thought" you couldn't live without!
( remember too that when you get your boy neutered he will prob go thru another "chewy" stage-it will pass!)
Those are absolutley gorgeous puppies too!
~~~please educate yourself on GIANT BREED NUTRITION~~~
these are NOT like other dogs
-they need less protien for slow growth-
calciumhosphorus ratio's need to be looked at too
best of luck to you and your family
PS-I totally agree on training with the above post-these are GIANTS-THEY NEED TO ANSWER TO YOU!
