The tales I have heard was the mob used to keep pigs to dispose of bodies. Pigs can be nasty and will eat meat.

That's sorta what happened to a neighbor when I was a kid. We had an old farmer about 80 yo that went to feed the cows and hogs and didn't come back that afternoon. His wife called us to go look for him and we found his truck by the hog pen, but couldn't find him. Layer that night the police found his hat and 1 boot in the hog pen. They thought he may have had a heart attack and fell out, and then the hogs finished him.

We don't keep pigs here. They are scary. They are opportunistic feeders.
