can I house coturnix quail with golden pheasants?

It can be done but only if you have enough space for a large enclosure. Each species require/utilize different areas of an enclosure.
Understanding the accommodations need for each species will go a long way in providing a 'stress free' environment for them as well as for you!

I have a couple of pens where the soil has eroded away from the base boards, leaving a gap under the board. The quail go between their pen and the pheasants pen. There has been no fighting or bickering among them, even with chicks....they weren't harmed by the pheasants (Melanistic Ringnecked). True pheasants in general, have a 'mean streak' in them, where as Ornimentals are more passive. see this thread;

With this having been said, every birds disposition is unique...it's a 'trial and error' type situation. What works for me, may not work for you!
