Somebody who is familiar with Silkies could maybe answer this.... I have 5 Silkie hens and 3 roosters. The roosters are all nest-mates, and get along well together. They are young yet, only one is crowing regularly. They walk around the yard in a tight group, and snuggle together at night. I wonder if I should re-home one of them, or could I get away with keeping all 3? There's a better chance of getting a good home for one of them if I re-home now rather than waiting until the winter.

What about keeping 2 of them with the 5 hens? Or I could maybe get 1 or 2 more hens...? Not sure what the preferred ratio is with Silkies.

I would say 3 - 5 hens per roo...so, if you want to keep them all, increase your girls :) If you would rather have a couple good egg layers, you could always get a couple other kind of hens, also...the roos won't care :)

I would do it now. I have two silkie roos which would not be a problem except that the silkie hens ALL want to stay broody...poor boys are walking around grumbling to each other!
