Hi, I have 3 bantams that have always lived together one of them has had a chick last tuesday, she is now with her chick in a new coup and run, the other 2 are now broody and sitting on 3 eggs each due in 19 days hopefully.

My question is can I put the mum bantam and the chick back with the other 2 bantams when they have their chicks? or can I put the mother and chick in with the two bantams sitting on the eggs as they are now broody or will the chick or eggs be at risk ?

Any advice very much appreciated

I would keep the new hatchlings seperated (with momma hen) for at least 2 weeks. by 4 weeks they could be big & agile enough to mingle with the older biddies and chickens. Agile meaning they can run away or fly up away short distances. Those first 2 weeks, the peeps need mom to protect them from everyone.

i know each situation is different. but i have 4 girls that are a month old (LF) and one silkie chick that's a week old. the older girls are already living outside....but i will take that baby silkie out to visit them twice a day. i was nervous at 1st, and i even put the baby in a cage to get aquainted with the older girls....nobody seemed to care about the baby....so i let the baby outta the cage and the older girls were fine with her (this happened when they were 3 weeks old and the baby was 3 days old). things have been going great ever since. the older girls were curious at 1st, but none if them pecked at her (except a few gentle pecks at her feet or body outta curiousity...nothing hard and mean). yesterday i even left the baby in with the big girls while i was close by, weeding the garden......all went well.
