Can I keep my chicken a secret?

some of my neighbors keep asking me if we still have the chickens, and then complain about the noise

I don't know what your set up is, but it is possible to keep it a secret, unless you have super nosey neighbors.

nosey neighbors need to be put in their place some times. thats why we have privacy fence's. key word privacy. sorry but i dont like nosey neighbors and i handle them quick.

I live in a neighborhood and its against the HOA to have chickens, the neighbors on each side know, but unless they are outside they never hear my girls doing the egg song. No one minds so far, lol

I am lucky to live in the county where there are no zoning regs. We have plenty of land but we do have close neighbors. My neighbors would never dream of complaining about chickens. However, we do have a neighbor down the road that has miniature Jacks and Ginny's. They can make a ruckus, but no one complains. Think about it, would you like to awake to traffic noise or the he-haw of an Ass. I would take the Ass any day.

I really don't think they would have noise complaints. It would be the stereotypical fear of chickens = "It might be a dirty smelly mess." YOu know? "What if's!"
And one is a real stickler for "Rules are Rules" LOL

They did try and shut down the Harley business. It never bothered me so I would not sign the petition or go to council meetings. I was the hold out. The Harley business was there long before they built the housing edition. The way I looked at it He was there first first. We moved in later.

Oh yes and IF the 126 hatch they will go live on Rose Creek Farm. This madness started with me wanting just one of those pretty fuzzy footed hens.

Napoeleon would take his troops, and have them hold roosters, and other farm animals. Then they would walk through the villages, forest, and roads and when ever one of the animals would make a sound another would respond back. He then would find people trying to hide themselves, and their livestock, from him. Then he would punish them.

So, I would say you will not be able to get away at keeping your chickens a secret.

If your worried about a noise complaint with the chickens. Try Muscovy ducks. They are called the quiet duck, they are not noiseless, but they hiss and make other noises. Its not as loud as chickens. But you do have to trim wings so they cant fly. Im real tired. So cant write much. For more info just google them. Or search them here.

If they're legal to have I don't think you'd get complaints from a couple of hens' "egg song". However, if they're not legal to have and you think you can keep them a secret, good luck. My three pullets scream at the top of their lungs each day when they are about to lay their egg/want a spot in the nest box/just feel like it. I have 1/2 an acre and 6ft privacy fencing, but if you're outside, my girls can be heard down the street. They're by no means noisy all day, but they're definitely not "stealth" chickens either. Good luck!

I saw the subject line and my immediately vocal inner voice said, "No."

Sure, you might, for a while. Or you may get discovered the second day they're outside if somebody thinks, "You know, I heard that sound yesterday, and I think that's a chicken somewhere."

If you're illegal, have an alternate plan (sounds like you do). If you aren't breaking any laws, restrictions, ordinances, etc., go for it. And stick your tongue out at anybody you see peeking over your fence.
