ChickenLittle there are two species of peafowl, the more common one is the India Blue. The other is the Java Green. Hybrids between the two are called Spaldings. All the color variations you see are mutations within the india blue species- they are not new species or different breeds, just different colors.

There is about 225 possible variety combinations in the peafowl world.

i wouldnt they get diseases from chickens but once i raised chickens with peacocks and had no problems still dont take any chances.

What broud spectrum dewormer would you recommend using when keeping Peafowel guinea fowl & chickens in the same area? How often do you deworm? Also is there any other preventative measures that should be takin? - Brett Read

Most of us here use safe guard for goats, we add 3cc to a gallon of water and remake it for 3 days, then repeat in 10 days. I reworm just my peafowl every 3 months, i do not worry about the guineas and chickens ,ain't never seen worms in them when processing so i don't worry about it and i process 100's of birds a year as i use them to feed the LGD instead of the crappy dog food that they put out there now.
Folks with lice and gape worm problems use ivormec 1cc per 10 pounds of body weight by mouth for gape worm and for lice just apply it to the back of the neck on the skin.

My birds all free range together and i have no problems but i see them eat chicken chips even as adults so if there are things in your area that cause problems then it is best to keep them separate especial if you keep them penned all the time, new ground is the best preventive but not all folks have that option.

now i am no expert. but i did alot of "research" - asking questions on here mostly. but googled it too. We had chickens first. we added peas. I've had no problems. but i did first worm both and give the recommended preventative dose - on side of bottle - of anti biotics also. i was mostly worried about black head from the chickens.

We did not put them together untill the peas were 5 months old. before that the peas had their own pen and we went out every night and put them inside and shut their door when we shut the chickens door.

Now that they're with the chickens they are still separate... they live in the same house - litterally a little one room house a squater used to sleep in long ago. its now divided down the middle with chicken wire. you walk into the chickens area, then you have to open a door to the peas. chickens free range every day. peas free range on the weekends when we're there to watch them. so the peas do walk thru the chickens area and are free to go in it when they're out. i've caught them perching in the chickens area. its ok and the chickens always want in the peas area asa the door opens.

all i can say is cleanslyness and prevention have to be a priority. i've got wormer and antibiotics - theres a specific one for black head its long and starts with an M - on hand in case. but all seems well in our bird house.

Oh ya, our peas go in at night just like the chickens we started going out at dusk and hearding them in but they go in on their own. there's no catching them. when they start to head that way we follow them. they go in the house and straight to their half and perch. i had really hoped they'd do this. and ya we pushed them to go in since they were baby chicks. i'm glad it works tho i hope they always do this. i can't imagine when they're grown up it'll be easy to catch them

i just got a pair of peacocks foe xmx indian blue and a white one.i also have 15 chickens right now i have put them together.they were a little stand off at first but getting use to them.my pen is big enough to seperate them in the day time.and at night they all roost together that has been working out fine.i also let my chickens free range during the day.peacocks are 6 mos old.trying to get a bond with them like i have the chickens but no luck yet.
