I have two white leghorn rooster that are being a pain and I really did not want any roosters but they came as freebies. Can I kick them out and let them run free in the yard the one rooster has been very good at telling the hens when to go in but he is also the one picking on them and the hubby the most. If I do kick them out of the coop do I still feed them or how does that work. I have 5 acres for him to roam on.

i had the same problem with my 2 RIR roo's...one got invited to a bar-b-q and the other one got a pen all to himself... all he does is pace the fence thats dividing the 2 pens...,i do plan on letting him breed at a later date...

I had one of my roos in jail for a bit. He was a little too persistent with one of the pullets one day. But he was released on parole, and so far he seems to have just enough redeeming qualities that he han't been renamed "Stew".

That's what I did this year too. I put the meanest one in the pot. The smaller one is in his own pen by himself until he's big enough to put in the pot.

Last year I had 4 of the pullets I ordered turn out to all be roos, plus one extra roo in a addition to the one I initially did order. They drove me NUTS. I was so glad when they were all big enough to butcher. RELIEF! For me, and the hens!!!

The hens will do just fine (and seem to be even happier) without a rooster jumping them all the time. One of them will step up and be the one in charge, although there is some benefit to having a good rooster who looks out for his girls. Mine was very alert and kept an eye on things. When he decided that my daughter was a threat to his ladies, that's when I had to say enough! It's nice to be able to go into the coop without wielding a broom...

Yes, kick them out as a culling method. You can use them as meat birds if you like or as a test for seeing what local predators are about. I have kicked out surplus Roos in the past that lasted a couple months before something found them and I have kicked surplus Roos out that didn't last the night.
