Can I let my chicks pick through grass?

Can i cut some grass from my lawn and give ii to my chicks? Should I combine the grass with dirt?

It is actually better to pull a plug of sod with soil and grass attached. That way they will pluck grass that is the right length for them to safely eat instead of eating long pieces like spaghetti. They will get much benefit from the sod, including the soil. Put it upside down in their brooder. Make sure the lawn has not been treated.
