Can I make DIY leg bands?

I have 6 chicks, I need to tell them apart so that I don’t name a chick twice leaving one chick without a name. I want to make DIY leg bands but, I don’t know what to use or what is safe. I want it to be simple with cheap but good supplies because I think the factory made or something like that are to expensive or might not be good for growing chicks. What can I use to make the bands? Is there a better way to tell them apart

Just order some chick bands for $3. $5 for like 100.

I think its ok to use zip ties but they have to be very lose and while they grow you might need to cut them off. HENSandMARED is right though, chick leg bands are easier.

Where i live we are only aloud to have 6 chicks so the 94 other bands will go to waste and I want one that is easy to remove because I’m afraid if I might cut the chicks when I cut a chick leg band off

I already named 4 out of 6

Use sharpie on their leg. Easy and safe. Will also eventually come off.

And once they are older you will not need them, because you will be able to tell them apart no matter how alike they look. I have two that are about identical, but eventually you will know them so well that you could tell them apart as easily as breathing.
