can i place chicken coop IN my veggie garden? (with proper protection)

We are building the coop down by our garden and I plan on letting them forage after growing season. We thought it would be easier to have the compost pile, chickens and garden all close.

Have you seen the chicken moat designs? The garden is the inner part, surrounded by a fence, then the chickens have the run of a fenced perimeter around the garden. I dare any crawling bug to get through the chicken moat of death into the garden.

If you can't wait for the books to arrive, you can check out a bood from your public library. They probably have several good books.

Just one thing to add to this- make sure before you turn them loose in the garden that nothing left in there is poisonous to them. Might want to check about tomato plants in particular, I"m almost positive they're toxic to ducks at least.
