can i pour tylan 50 directly onto my chick's eye?

the sales person told me drop two drops into its beak, but i also read i can pour it onto its eye....i just want to make sure that that info is correct....is it?


it has watery, swollen eyes....right now, it can't open its eyes

I have not used Tylan, but I found this from this site.

Where did you get this chick? Are you sure it's not high ammonia levels and dampness that are causing an eye issue? Personally, I'd cull any young chick that was actually ill rather than use antibiotics. Where was the baby? Brooder? Feedstore? How old is it? Sounded very young by the way you were talking.

thank you hennypenny, the thread is close to the problem i am dealing with

uhm, i got my chick from a swapmeet, but i wasnt the one who purchsed him. he seemed healthy when i got him, though.

whats cull? im sorry, im really new to this.

i have been giving him an oral dosage of two drops each day, but i dont know if its helping. he can only open one eye after scratching it.

can i pour the tylan into its eyes?

i didnt pour the tylan onto his eye. instead i gave him an oral dosage of 2 drops each day in about a week his eyes healed. at one point i had to take out something yellow from his eye.


i stopped after his eyes healed, but i should have continued giving
him the antibiotics because he is now leaking from his nose.

Sounds like some sort of plaque or solidified infection in the eye, but I can't say for sure.


Cull means euthanize. Respiratory illness is not something you want to keep in the flock, IMO. Too many people have brought one sick chick home from a swap/auction/flea market only to have it spread disease to the entire flock. Sick birds do not always show symptoms right away. It's why you should quarantine birds for over a month when you acquire them. It's my only recommendation other than never buying any birds from swaps, sorry.
