My hen just hatched 2 chicks and my son brought home 5 chicks that are almost a week old. Can I try to put them all under the new mama tonight ? Or just keep the older ones In the broader. I'm bringing in the hen to a new box in my green room tonight. My other hens are mean to mama when she tries to go in the run to eat and drink so I think the chicks will be safer alone in a pen with her for awhile. Any advice is greatly appreciated!! TIA

I don't think it would be fair to the offspring if you added the adopted ones. The younger ones might die, or maybe the mom wouldn't cuddle with the week-old. Put the 5 other chicks and place them in a brooder seperate from everything. Don't forget a heatlamp unless its super warm where you live!

Thanks ! The older ones are in the brooder doing well.
My mama hen ( Buff Orpington) is a first time mama and is only 10 months old her self. 🤔 I think your advice is spot on ! Thank you !!!
