Can I show off my chickens on their first day of free ranging? :)

We ran an errand about two hours before it got dark and when we got home they were all roosting in the coop and it was t even dark yet.

Great news. We've never had chickens until this Spring, and I am still nervous about letting them free-range the back yard. They do go in and out of the coop from their run ok, so I suppose they'd be alright.

I worry a lot tho, had some dreams/nightmare about hawks walking around the coop and checking out how to get in. We did a pretty good job of security, but it hasn't been tested yet. Seems all the raptors know
about our chickens, we've seen red-tailed hawks patrolling, and a great horned owl. As well as the usual opossums, racoons, coyotes.

Any more pictures?

How about this attempt at crowing? Our SLW started 2 days ago, he better be well behaved and only crow a few times in the AM, and not too much otherwise.

Is your rain barrel painted to match your house (which I love btw)? I am going to have to steal that idea...

LOL so many people don't realise that a rooster can and will crow all day when they start. LOL OMG, when all my cockerels get going, there are days when I think... Someone is going to come and shoot my birds! LOL. But as they get older, they don't do it as often. They will crow to round up the ladies, to warn of danger, to get attention... Especially fun when your neighbors have chickens, and all the roosters in the 3/4 mile block your on start crowing. LOL, one of my favorite things to hear in the morning. BUT, I am a freak. I love crowing.

Are you talking to me? That small water container happens to be red/white. Good thing all the chicken suppliers like my color combo lol. It isn't a rain barrel, but that's a good idea.
