it has been 8 hours and our first chick is not drying at all... i know they are supposed to stay in there for 24 hrs, but with humidity high for other chicks to hatch, how is she going to dry?? this is our first experience with hatching, so might sound silly, but dont wanna risk anything happening.. isn"t it hard for them to breath with that humidity?? any advise would be helpful.. thank you!!!!

They do not have to stay in for 24 hours. They can stay in for up to 72 hours, and you should not open the incubator if there are other eggs pipping as it will dry them out and they won't be able to hatch.

I have removed a chick at just a few hours old because it wasn't drying out- but I wouldn't do it if there is a pip unless the chick is 24 hours old. I have only hatched 3 times though.

I just made sure that my temp was 95 degrees in the brooder to start (and the light was just on one end so it could get away from the heat)- then I backed down to 90 the next day, and then followed the chick temp chart.
