Can I take my chick out before 24 hours or do I absolutely have to wait? From what I understand it can be whenever they fluff completely?

Also, I have only one out of 6 chicks hatched today and one more pipped. The pipped one has not done anything for a while it pipped at 2:10 today and it's not 7:00 and still nothing....it's starting to worry me. I thought I could see it moving but it could be just my eyes playing tricks on me. Any advice/help you can offer?
Also, non of my other eggs have pipped or moved....should I be worried?

I have these questions as well. I have two hatched in a Brinsea Mini Advance, all seems to be well with them, but now, they are rolling the other eggs like crazy as they move around. Also, they chirp like mad when they see me. I hope they don't have the remaining chicks upside down or something. Do I wait till all have hatched before taking these ones out? Take them all out at once?? First time to hatch, and I really really want to get my hands on them!! :-))

I REPEAT! DO NOT OPEN THE BATOR!

The chicks will be fine for 48 hours in there. The yolk they absorbed before hatching will give them nourishment for this time. If you open the bator now you risk the lives of the chicks who have not yet hatched. Fight the temptation! I'll be taping the lid of my bator closed as a reminder to myself.

me too! never had a bad hatch or a shrink wraped chick, I do it fast and just open the lid enough to reach in and it has never caused a problem,

Having the chicks running around in there knocking the other eggs around rolling them laying on them causes more trouble then just taking them out.

I hatch in egg cartons so the other chicks (mostly) can't disturb the ones that haven't hatched yet. It really is best not to open the bator. Some people do and haven't had problems, but many others have shrink wrapped the unhatched chicks by lowering the humidity when opening the incubator. It won't hurt the early hatchers to hang out for a day or two so it's really best not to risk it. If you have an emergency situation and feel you have to remove a chick you can minimize the risk by taking the bator into a hot steamy bathroom (run the shower on hot) and open it in there to remove the chick. There shouldn't be much loss of temp or humidity if you do it in a controlled enviorment like that.

Good luck with your hatches and remember rule #1--Sit On Your Hands!
