My first 6 chicks just arrived today and we're so excited. I'm in CT and the temps are supposed to be in the mid 80's to 90 this week/weekend. Is it ok to take them out each day? If so, for how long? I know they're supposed to be at 95 the first week and so on, but thought I might be able to take them out at the hottest part of the day for a little while maybe?
Thanks!

My chicks are one week old and I'm in Massachusetts. We've been taking them out since they were 3 days old. Only at the peak of the afternoon so that it would be quite warm.

I judged by their behavior if they were happy. There was no loud peeping only gentle soft chirping and lots of scampering about happily pecking at just about everything.

We (my kids and I) supervised due to fear of losing them in the plant life or due to hawks. We haven't kept them out for more than 30 minutes at a time. They really seem to love it! When they go back into the basement brooder they immediately all take a nap, such hard work all that exploring!

Anyway they still seem very happy and healthy and I think your chicks should be just fine if you take them out for some play time.

I took my 2 day olds out today for some playtime. I kept it brief but they sure did enjoy it. They were out for about 15 min. but did a lot of exploring. Of course they seen how their bigger sisters ( 2 and 3 weeks old) acted it was great. Best of luck with your babies.

Although I live in sunny california, we do get chilly days. I have always taken my chicks out on nice days. I just keep a close eye on them or make sure they are well protected from breezes and predators. It is great fun for all.
They are soo curious and get soo excited, I just love watching them.
