how can I tell if the chicks in my eggs are dead or alive?

I dont know how old the eggs are, but there ARE chicks in them.

there all black.
there now in my incubator.

How long have you had them in you're incubator?

One way to test them is to use the float test, like in this thread .

The float test is good, sounds like you have candled them otherwise how would you know there's chicks? If you watch while candling even though the egg should be dark, if you keep your eye on the lighter part where the air cell is you would be able to see it pulsate or move, if not try slowly turning the egg but keeping an eye on the air cell. If you see if pulsating guess what, it's lock down time immediately lock them down....

10:05 pm we were near the incubator, when all of a sudden we heard this loud POP!!!


we looked in the incubator where the sound came from, and saw that one of the 4 eggs exploded!!!!
revealing a horrid SMELL!!!! and a DEAD baby fully formed chick.

poor baby

what happened?

we brought it out side, and left them there. I think the other eggs are dead too.
