Can I use a fish tank heater to Keep water from freezing?

I have a spare heater laying around its a small one, Could I use that to keep the water un frozen?

never thought of that, but wht not. thermostat controlled, waterproof. Don't break the glass, but sure, why not

Yeah I don't see a reason not just keep it low in the water.
