Can I use a Reptile Incubator for Chicken Eggs (Reptipro5000)

Yowzee, one is zipped about 1/3 of the way another is widening that pip hole. Both are chirping like crazy when I coo at them. Everyone is asleep?!?!?!?

Wow, I am so glad I found this topic.. I just bought one of these "fridge" Reptipro 5000 incubator on Ebay.. I set 12 silkie eggs and we are on day 4. Candled last night and have little baby peanuts in at least 8 out of the 12. Hard to see some. I have the eggs on the highest rack setting and temp on display is 105 but 100 on the tray. I have 2 thermometers and they read the same. The temp stays pretty constant on the shelf too which is nice. I just can't imagine that there is such a temp difference from the top to the bottom. Humidity is at 35% to 40% with a small tupperware with water on the bottom. After reading all this, I was wondering about oxygen levels too. I am opening the unit 3 times a day to turn the eggs, but do worry once we are in lockdown. I am excited to hear about the hatchlings, and please, post pics when they are all finished hatching. If there is anything else I should do with this unit, I would appreciate any advice.

I have an update. Sorry to get here late, I was up all night and then I had to start school this morning. My mind is still on chicks. Here is the first official test outcome of the "repti-pro - geek - think - chicki-bator"! ALL 8 HATCHED 100%.

I have pictures but must find the cord to upload them all.

I MESSED UP ON TWO IMPORTANT THINGS AND HAD TO OPEN THE INCUBATOR TWICE AFTER PIPPING AND AFTER TWO HATCHED EARLY THIS MORNING. I had to pick up each egg and move them, too. I DID ALOT WRONG. They still made it, the unit holds great humidity. Between 1:30 am and 2:00 am, two hatched. By 5:00am, 5 to 6 had hatched. At 9:00am, seven. At 9:30am...ALL EIGHT. I messed up on two other things, so I will post all that I learned when we are done with our schoolwork here.

The chicks are so cute. They are super fluffy and I am so proud of them.

I have never seen completely new born chicks, our broody usually hides them from me. They are a little slumpy and sleeping, but their eyes are bright and they are fluffing up. Each one moves and we watch carefully to be sure everyone is breathing.

I like these smiley things.

Thanks, again...everybody!

Here's my first attempt to upload an image....can you see my eight little peeps? They are not very active right now, they seem to huddle together and sleep. One has a big belly and I hope it is OK. They all lift their heads and hop around when settling somewhere else. I had to move them from the top to the bottom, and took out the water pan. This is my very first incubator hatch; I have started in a bator, but move them to a broody hen. I think I have a broody Mom for these guys, too. I will try bringing her in tonight when it is dark.

Just wanted everyone to know that I just got off the phone with the owner of the company. He says they actually sell more of these for bird eggs (especially chicken) than anything else (including their reptiles, etc.). He says that the air is recirculated within the unit, but opening the door several times a day to turn the eggs, give them enough air exchange. Also, he said that when it is the lockdown period, even just quickly opening the door at least 1 time a day will give an air exchange to keep things good. If at all possible, I would prefer NOT to drill holes in this since we plan on using it on long distance trips as a fridge to keep things cold (we bring home stuff from PA that we can't get here in VT). He says that the customers he has talked to that have used it for bird eggs (especially one in particular with quail eggs) have used it quite successfully without holes.Just a quick FYI......

I was actually concerned about the air, but also the spaces for the fan itself on the inside. I'm afraid that they might get a foot or beak stuck in there. Probably just my overly protective motherly instinct. Anyone have some of that hair dye left?
