I've read that cedar is toxic for chickens, but most of what I've read has to do with cedar shavings. would it be alright to use cedar wall studs as long as the coop is well ventilated? Thanks.

Sure. Some people have cedar coops, and some people use cedar shavings as well, although I wouldn't go that far, myself.... I would use a cedar coop, though, if it were old enough not to have that prominent cedar smell -- and, as you said, were well ventilated.

Cedar and some other woods, including pine, that have a lot of odor, can be irritating to their respiratory tracts. If your cedar studs have little odor, I certainly wouldn't be concerned. Even pine shavings can be irritating if they smell strongly enough, especially without good ventilation
