Hi everyone!
This might seem random, but I'm wondering if anyone has had a go using macrocarpa wood shavings in their coop?
I'm living on my friends property who owns a saw mill and deals strictly in macrocarpa.
I cleaned out the coop my chickens are using (which is actually my friends spare aviary) and I used macrocarpa shavings. Strange thing- the next morning, the chickens didn't seem in a hurry to move from the roost. It was a rainy day, but I was hoping the fumes from the fresh wood shavings didn't upset the chickens.
Appreciate the help!

It's probably not an issue. You'll get a range of answers, but even ceder shavings don't usually cause issues that fast. I'm really not sure what to make of using shavings, I use them when I have them (pine) and use other things when I don't. Plenty of people have used a range of shavings for years and years without seeming to have any issues. That doesn't mean they can't cause issues or they're the best thing to use, but I doubt they cause serious problems quickly.
