My hubby has been using shredded newspaper. He wants to know if he can use shredded paper from his office. I said I thought it could possibly give the chicks papercuts.... any opinions? Any else that has used printer paper?

Also, they are 1 week old.. how much longer should we use shredded bedding? I read flat newspaper was okay after a while? We used flat paper for all of our chicks before... until I read it was not best. Got lucky I guess...

It will be fine. However, don't use it for the first few days until the chicks learn what is food.

For the first few days, use something that is too big for the chicks to swallow.

I've used office shreds for my nesting boxes and it works just fine. Sometimes bits of paper will adhere to the egg shell, but that's not a real problem. After a while, I dump the shreds into the compost with everything else.
