My RIR still hasn't resumed regular laying and I want to bring her to a vet to get checked out for internal laying. She laid one egg about a month ago, then a second egg two weeks ago. The eggs are large, a little elongated. Other than that, I don't see her attempting to lay, although she makes an egg call whenever the other girls lay.

She seems to be a healthy chicken in most other ways. Her comb is red, she is active, dust bathing, eating and drinking. She doesn't walk like a penguin and her abdomen feels the same as the other hens. The only unusual thing is that her bum is a little messier than normal. She was treated for mites a few weeks ago and all seems well on that front.

I want to bring her to a vet to get examined. Can internal laying be diagnosed through a physical exam? Or would this be a waste of time?

It would depend on the vet....
...many are not well versed in avian medicine, some do not want to be.
