I have this little guy. He had issues hatching and now, as you can see, there is a problem. Bigger problem is that it is an Ayam Cemani and I don't want him to die. I have him wrapped in a towel and I've been giving sugar water for several hours. He is chirping vigorously but not trying to stand at all. What should I do? Odds of survival?

I have read about chicks making it that were hatched out before the yolk was absorbed so there is always hope. I would say the best thing to do would be to put him in a small container and have it in the incubator and given time he may absorb the yolk. It's good that he isn't trying to move and get up, that gives him time and hopefully ability to adjust the rest w/o it rupturing. I believe near the end of the hatching 101 page there is a small section on this very thing. It's worth looking up.

Completely absorbed so far. I am beginning to have hope. He is being so loud. Sugar water is working so well.

Navel is completely healed and just went in the brooder with the other chicks from yesterday. He may die yet but he's up walking around and eating so I feel pretty great. Can't believe he has made it this far.

He's alive and well. Fluffed up and running all over the brooder.
