Can it work?

Lereg, folks can discuss this till the cows come home.

Bottom line is this: I'm sure you will do your homework and dot your i's and cross your t's to do what ever is in your best interests to see to it that you don't pay any more property tax than is necessary. Your tax codes and building codes are different than mine or those of any other town.

Don't let folks tell you that it's too hard to move a building. I once helped my 75 year old Dad move a camp building 30' up a steep hill. He was working on it alone, when I showed up to assist him. He was moving it with some car jacks, a lever, cribbing, heavy metal rollers, some PT 4 x 6 beams, and a few come-alongs/ratchet straps attached to the trees. My Dad's motto: "You can move the world, if you have a lever long enough!"

If moving that building is part of your long range plan for the property, then... you can move the building. If it's placement does not matter, then you can leave it where it is!

I envy you for your coop/run plan. Sounds like you're gonna have a fun spring/summer.

Thanks LG!! My original thoughts were to move it, but I kind of like it where it's at now. I have a driveway that comes up to it, and a circle drive that runs near the side of it, so it's in a convenient location for us. Plus, if I build the coop on the back of it and put the human door from the shed to the coop, nobody or nothing will be able to get in the coop but us. It helps ease my mind, I guess. My only problem now is getting the resources to build it. I had a buddy that had a structure taken down, but somebody beat me to the wood. Time for plan B.

You have plenty of time to access free wood. Call your area remodeling and construction businesses. Either will have building supplies that they would be happy to have you come and haul away for them. Box lumber/hardware stores will have plenty of "seconds" though those will be harder to work with. Depending on the size/style of coop, shipping crates may be a source of materials for you. My local dump can keep me supplied. I can get doors and windows aplenty! And, often can get plywood, and studs. I just have to go when hubby is not around! ;) He really doesn't understand my need to keep a stash of building materials on hand. "But, I NEED THAT!!!"

Yeah, that's my plan B!! The crazy thing here is that our dumps do not take any construction supplies for whatever reason.

I plan on posting on lsn, to find some ' leftover' supplies as well. Although maybe not free, but hopefully considerably lower in price than new. I know that quite a few people who remodel that just trash doors, windows, etc. when they exchange for new. I need to find some contractors and roofers to see if they have any decent 'scraps' that I can have.

Check out any
new construction
sites. If you go when they are there, ask if you can go thru their dumpster and take out excess wood.
It gives them more room in the dumpster and you get extras... win win

I have couple jobs tomorrow, and in the area, there are a bunch of houses being built right by there, so I'll check t out!!

... or you can go sneaking at night when no one is there or weekends. But then you might miss out.

I built a 2 story, 2 tunnel, 10 x 7 cat play thing out of scraps and also Carpet scraps from a construction site :) :) but I stole it all hahhaha

I noticed a couple places yesterday, but didn't see anything worth much. I'll look today again on my travels, if it quits raining. It's been under 30* here for the last week and a half, no snow, and now it rains, ugh

Construction dumpsters working good so far!! I'll post the results when I get home. This is pretty exciting!!
