Can mouse poo kill quail

Hi all ,My quails food was in the bag that it came in and mice kept on getting into it so I moved it into a bucket with the lid but there was still some mouse poop in it and I'm wondering if that's killing my quail because two of them have died in the last 2 days, any diseases that might be mouse related that you could point out would be helpful, their one-year-old coturnix quail

Mouse poop can transmit disease that kills humans so i would say that's a good guess.

Oh no that's what I was thinking, my two favorite died it was my silver tuxedo and my Rosetta , thank you for your response

do you know of any ways to get rid of mice other than setting mouse traps because I don't want my quail getting caught in them

How are your quail housed?

My quails are housed in cages outside under a sheltered shop area with hides and hay , I noticed the mice started going into the hides at night and I tried to scare them away but I didn't want to set a mousetrap in there for fear of hurting my quail

Can you add 1/4" hardware cloth to prevent the mice from getting inside?
