Can older chickens get pasty butt? Mine are looking kind of messy.

My girls seem to have some wet hind feathers. I am feeding them Game grower because at the time I got the bag they were not laying and now they all seem to be laying eggs and I plan to go back to layer crumbles. I noticed that their hind feathers had some residual white stuff and a couple of them have poop stuck to them - not covering the vent but just below. I keep their coop pretty clean with fresh hay once a week and shovel out the old poop.

Should I wash them off? It has been dipping below freezing and the house is pretty cold to save money.

Should I post a picture? Other than that they are eating well and seem happy. I have added ACV to their water. The only change was in their feed they have been eating it since December and will finish off the back by the end of the month. Their poop is stinkier but I read that higher protein will do that.

Are their hind feathers poopy or wet? Post a picture if you can.

If I were you I would not finish that bag of food. Sounds like the problem started shortly after they started eating it. If they are laying put them on layer feed.

Mix some yogurt (without artificial sweetner) with cheerios and give some to them everyday. The cheerios just helps them to get the yogurt inside their bodies instead of flinging it everywhere. Try for 10 days and see if their condition gets better.

They've been on this food for a while, since end of November I think. I will try the yogurt and post a picture - My son took the camera disc out of my camera and I will have to search around for another.

Thanks by the way
