can polish chickens fly?

Got my polish hen just over 2 weeks ago, but she has been kept in a cage due to being ill. i want to let he out to be with the other silkies, but im worried she flies well.

im used to silkies that don't fly well, the rooster not flying at all ( he just jumps on and off stairs, nothing higher)

can polish chickens fly well?

I am sorry about your ill chicken. What was the problem?

Yes, all chickens can fly. You can trim one wing to help keep them a bit more grounded, but they will always still try to fly. That's what wings are for!

I hope your bird heals soon.

Hello and Welcome To BYC! X2, Polish chickens can fly quite well, you will need to trim wings and/or cover the run etc.

thanks so much for your replies.

she was treated for avian pocks, but symptoms changed slightly to trich (puffy crop with her spewing clear liquid out of he mouth, and also very watery poos), so we had her on flagyl for 6 days and she is as happy as ever.
( i did however find a poo with a large piece of corn and the vet did say there was a 50/50 chance of something being stuck in her crop, but we treated for trich just in case. vet was nice enough to give me the bottle of flagyl for future use) its been an adventure of stress with nursing her to good health.

i was told that polish chickens don't fly very well (the reason we got her) but i was clearly lied to, thank goodness i have kept her in her cage while i introduce her to my tiny flock. will clip wings asap!
how often do i need to clip the wings?

she met the rooster for the first time without being in the cage and it was so sweet, he is so gentle with the little ones

Yes Polish chickens can fly over a 6 foot fence at will nothing
like your Silkies .....

Not all chickens can fly... I have silkies and they can jump and flap but i assure you there is no flying that takes place at all no matter how hard they try...cant even get more than a foot or 2 off the ground.

My friend has 3 house silkies and they don't fly at all just jump and hop. I assumed polish couldn't fly, I thought the big crests would obscure their vision. So I just learned something new myself. Welcome to BYC.
